Steve Defever is the owner of Divine Doors & Trim of Brighton MichiganMy name is Steve Defever, the owner of Divine Doors & Trim. I started Divine Doors & Trim to be able to supply all of the best products to all specialties of the building industry from new construction, remodeling, and historical preservation, commercial, and homeowner sales. Based on 25 years of hands on experience in the Door & Millwork industry there is no job too big or too small for our expert staff to handle.

After completing my college education at Central Michigan University, I to moved to Denver, Colorado in the early 1980's when the economy was booming. I was involved in the construction of new custom homes from the ground up. I was a rough carpenter at one time and before long became an Assistant Project Manager overseeing and managing the complete construction of homes and condominiums.

In 1986, I was asked by my father-in-law to move back to Michigan to get involved in the growth of his millwork business in Grosse Pointe Woods. I learned everything about doors, windows, trim and cabinetry from Bob Iannuzzi--often regarded as the best in the industry. Bob has always been a hands-on guy and taught me everything about the industry. Bob has since retired but works for me part-time, and enjoys the opportunity to help and educate people on their millwork needs.

While I was working for my father-in-law, I participated in a wide variety of restoration jobs here in Michigan such as:

  • Manufacturing and furnishing 250 new windows for The Michigan State Capital Building.
  • Supplying windows and doors for Henry Ford Museum's Texaco Station, Trains, and Trolley cars.
  • Providing window upgrades for the Detroit Public Library and Stroh's River Place.
  • Upgrades and installations on numerous auto executives homes in the Grosse Pointe area.
  • Supplied local window and door manufacturers with radius windows and trim.
  • High-end cabinetry work for new construction homes as well as cabinets for institutional projects such as: St. John's & St. Joseph Hospital 's.
  • Casework at many local Detroit area schools.

In the mid 90's I was asked to start a door company called Heritage Door based in Canton, Michigan with a manufacturing facility located in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. I started the company from the ground up as a door, window and millwork manufacturer and distributor. I purchased all the necessary equipment for a 25,000 square foot manufacturing facility in a third world country here in the United States and shipped it to the manufacturing facility. I proceeded to direct the set up of the manufacturing plant; training our staff in the proper way to manufacture doors, windows and mouldings. Heritage Door is still located in Canton but has since been sold to Marvin Window Company who now owns and operates the company. Besides setting up and working with the people at the manufacturing facility, I designed and engineered doors & window systems for distributors across the country. I was also involved in the marketing of the products and product literature.

In 2004 I made a decision to take all my experience and knowledge and help the local market by opening my own retail showroom, specializing in exterior and interior doors, hardwood mouldings, stair accessories and door hardware. My decision has led to a new 4000 square foot showroom featuring a variety of products for our customers to see and touch. I have put crown mouldings up on the ceilings, base moulding on the floor and have a wide selection of doors, stair accessories and hardware making it easy for you to visualize what an item may look like in your home.
